We are inconsistent in prayer and Bible reading because we forget we are on a battlefield. Not a physical one, but a spiritual war waged in our minds and hearts. Since we do not see the fight, we do not prioritize the weapons. Instead, we focus on the comforts of this life while neglecting the very things that equip us to stand and fight: prayer and God’s Word. Our flesh fights against God every single day. It does not take breaks. This is why Jesus said we must die daily. Not once, but every single day. Our flesh is relentless. It does not care that you prayed yesterday. It does not care that you felt spiritual last Sunday.
